Naturopathic Doctor Training
Naturopathic Doctors (ND's) are primary care doctors trained in a wide variety of therapeutics including clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy, spinal manipulation, pharmacology, and counseling. Naturopathic Doctors are trained in conventional fields of diagnosis and can order laboratory tests if necessary.
The Naturopathic Doctor has a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) degree from a four year graduate level accredited naturopathic medical college. The first two years of schooling, like those of an orthodox MD, are in basic medical sciences, including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and microbiology. The second two years emphasize clinical training in naturopathic therapeutics such as botanical medicine, nutrition, and homeopathy. Clinical training includes observing practicing Naturopathic Doctors for hundreds of hours. After graduation, Naturopathic Doctors are required to pass a national level board examination to obtain a license.
